RESCUE 13

EVENTS

BEACH FLAGS

This event tests athlete' s power and reflexes. It requires competitors to lay on their stomachs facing away from a series of “flags”  placed 20m behind them in the sand. On the sound of a whistle competitors stand up, turn and race to collect one of the flags. Competitors who don' t manage to seize a flag are eliminated.

RUN SWIM RUN

This event combines a run leg and a swim leg. Competitors are required to run 200m on the beach, followed by 400m of swimming and completed by another 200m run leg.

OCEANMAN LONG DISTANCE

This event is considered to be the royal discipline of surf lifesaving. It tests both athlete' s endurance and technical skills. It includes a swim leg, a board leg and a surfski leg. Each of these stages is followed by a short transition run on the beach.

BOARD RACE

In this event competitors enter the water with their board and paddle for approximately 600m lying or kneeling on a 3,5m long board of minimum weight of 7,5kg. This event demands great technical skills when entering the water and passing the marking buoys, where the contact can get particulary harsh and destabilizing.

SURF SKI RACE

This event is named after the surf ski,  a traditional craft used by surf lifesavers. In this event, competitors start in the water and paddle for approximately 700m around a series of buoys and back to the beach to cross the finishing line marked out in the water by two flags. This event demands a lot of balance and endurance at the same time.

TAPLIN "HARIBO" RELAY

This event was specifically created for the RESCUE13 as a tribute to solidarity and fellowship characteristic of the lifesaving community. On the day of the competition, all registered athletes will be encouraged to make teams of 4, regardless of the club affiliation, to take part in this event.
